For groups and multi-site operators
Signage for a care group
If you are responsible for more than one building, the rest of this site was written for somebody buying a handful of signs. This page was written for you. It says how a group buys from us, what each building gets, and what we are not going to claim.
How a group buys from us
The specification is agreed once, centrally. The unit we price, schedule and deliver is one building.
- 1One specification, agreed with the head office. The color or colors, the sign types for each kind of room, how rooms are named, and which icons are used. It is written down once and it is the same document for every building.
- 2A free wayfinding schedule and a quote for each building. Floor plans in; a schedule sign by sign and room by room out, with a price for that building. One building to begin with, or all of them.
- 3Each building orders its own signs. A quote per building means a budget per building, approved by whoever holds it. Nobody has to find one large figure, and the buildings do not have to be done in the same month.
We did not invent that sequence for this page: it is how the groups in our own order book have bought. In one group the head office agreed the scheme and then each care facility placed its own order, signed by its own manager. In another, one person at the centre placed the order for every building. Both work here, and you do not have to decide which you are before you speak to us.
One specification, applied to every building
So your seventh building reads like your first.
A group specification is a short document that fixes the decisions you only want to make once:
- the color or colors the group uses, from the eight we make;
- which sign type goes on which kind of room — bedroom, bathroom, lounge, office;
- how a room is named, in the words your own staff and residents use for it;
- which icon stands for which room, so the same picture means the same thing everywhere;
- what a resident’s own bedroom sign carries, where you personalise it.
Every building’s schedule is then written from that one document rather than designed again. Our group orders are, in practice, the same products in different quantities — which is what makes a standard across sites a straightforward thing to hold rather than a promise.

A free wayfinding schedule, per building
Floor plans in. A schedule and a price for that building out. No charge, and nothing to commit to.
We read the plans and write the schedule out: every sign, the wording on it, the room it belongs outside, the sign type, the color and the quantity — then price it. You get one per building, so each care facility has a document and a figure of its own, and you get a total for the group by adding them up.
If the plans are not yours to send — they sit with a facilities team, with an architect, or inside a tender pack — say so in the form below and tell us where they are. We will tell you what we can work from. A room list and a bed count is often enough to start.
We make the signs ourselves
Signage for Care is the care brand of Wayfinders, and Wayfinders manufactures the signs to order.
It matters to a group more than to anyone else. Nothing in your specification depends on a third party’s catalogue, so the same colors, the same sign types and the same artwork can be held across your buildings rather than re-sourced for each one. When building seven is signed, it is made from the same files as building one.
1A DSDC accredited
A named product of ours was assessed by specialists at the Dementia Services Development Centre, University of Stirling, against ten published product design principles, and classified for suitability of use.
DSDC publishes an Accredited Products Directory. In the July 2023 edition the Signage section lists one company — Wayfinders, who manufacture Signage for Care — with a 2018 entry for a toilet sign in eight colors. DSDC's own guidance says the logo is awarded on the merit of the individual product and, where applicable, its color-way, so an accreditation belongs to a product rather than to a company.
Which is why the useful question to put to any signage supplier, including us, is “which product does your certificate name, and what date is on it?” We are not going to describe a wider scope, a rating level or a renewal date we cannot put in front of you. If it is going into a group specification or a tender, ask us for the certificate and ask DSDC to confirm it.
What 1A DSDC accreditation is, with DSDC's ten design principles
A quote per building is a budget per building
A group rollout does not have to be one purchase. In our own order book the buildings of a group have been quoted and ordered separately, weeks and months apart. Each building’s quote stands on its own, so it can be approved by whoever holds that building’s budget — the home’s manager or the head office, whichever you run. We have taken orders both ways and have no preference.
We accept purchase orders. Choose Purchase Order at the checkout payment step.
What we are not going to tell you
You will be comparing us with suppliers who will tell you all of it. Here is where we stop, and why.
- We will not name our customers on a web page. We have not asked their permission to, so we have not done it. Ask us on a call and we will tell you what we are free to say.
- We will not put a turnaround time on this page. We have not measured one we would stand over, and a date we miss on building two would cost you more than it gains us here.
- We will not promise how fast we answer. We used to, in several places, and we did not keep it. If you need an answer today, telephone +1 (646) 851 2756 on a weekday between 9am and 5pm GMT.
- We will not tell you what signs do to residents or to an inspection result. Our signs name and picture a room in high contrast so that a person can find it. They are not a treatment and they are not a compliance product, and anyone selling them to you as either is selling you something we would not.
Start with one building, or all of them
Two things we cannot guess: how many buildings you are responsible for, and where the floor plans live. Tell us those and we will come back with a schedule and a price per building.
Rather not use a form? Email info@signageforcare.com with the number of buildings and where the plans are, or read before you order for the questions buyers ask us first. If you are buying for a single building rather than a group, start at care facility signage.
